Thanks for posting this -- it has to be one of the best pilot scripts I've read. I had to laugh when I discovered that Tom Kapinos also wrote about 20 episodes of Dawson's Creek. Talk about doing a 180...
Yea it was a very good pilot. He was an executive producer there for a while. Like 4 seasons I think. There's a great interview with him about the making of this script at wgaw.org. Should check it out.
That was a good interview. I like how he said that Dawson's Creek was originally supposed to be "dark and edgy." Looking forward to season 3 of Californication.
I'm all over the place with my shows. Finished season one of Californication through isntant streaming on netflicks but havent ordered season 2 on the discs yet. And I just finished seasons 1 + 2 or Dexter and love that show now. On season 3 of weeds and am currently halfway through season 2 of Party down. So my tv schedule is kinda everywhere lol. And I want to see United States of Tara and Six feet under,
Haven't seen it yet. Saw the trailer the other night as well. It looked pretty good. HBO and Showtime have really hit their stride in the past few years so I'm thinking it's pretty good. It's just such an easy concept it's like "Why didn't I think of that?" lol
Yeah, I may have to check that out (you really can't go wrong with HBO and Showtime series). JOHN FROM CINCINNATI was another one I really liked. That show was really out there (probably why it was cancelled after only one season).
Basically it centered on this dysfunctional surfing family in California and this mysterious visitor (John) who shows up one day.
After John's arrival, strange things begin to happen: the father begins to levitate several feet off the ground, one of their kids who broke his neck in a surfing accident is "healed", ect.
John reminded me a lot of Jeff Bridges' character from STARMAN (and I always assumed John was extraterrestrial because there's a scene where he's staring intently at a naval radar station -- like he's sending/receiving a message).
Anyway, like I said, it's really out there. It would've been interesting to see what direction they would've gone in had it not been cancelled.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen HUNG (Thomas Jane & Jane Adams)? I saw the trailer for the first season but I can't decide if it's worth renting or not.

Hmmm. Sounds kinda interesting. May have to check it out. I might even have a script for it. Keep an eye out for that.
